Lyndon Meehan

Specialist in Endodontics

Lyndon graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, in 2000 with a degree in Dental Technology, and then from Cardiff Dental School in 2005. He achieved the MJDF exam at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2009. He advanced his Endodontic studies by earning a Master’s in Clinical Endodontics from The University of South Wales in 2015.

In 2019, he successfully passed the membership examination in Endodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and was subsequently registered with the General Dental Council as a specialist. He currently serves as a Part-Time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics, and Dental Trauma with Swansea Bay Health Board. In this role, he is responsible for developing and providing endodontic services for the health board.

Lyndon worked in general practice in South Wales before specialising, providing NHS and private care. He served as a staff grade in Restorative Dentistry at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, then became a Speciality Dentist in Endodontics. He gained further expertise at King's College Dental Hospital in London, working in the Department of Dental Traumatology and Endodontics, caring for patients with complex treatment needs.

Lyndon’s clinical and research interests include:
-Immediate management and subsequent Endodontic rehabilitation of teeth, following traumatic dental injuries.
-Sports Dentistry.
-Dental screening of sportspersons and management of sports dental injuries.

He has published in various journals and textbooks and delivers lectures nationally. Lyndon served on the UK Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine council and Dental Trauma UK, helping to develop policies on Oral Health and Dental Trauma in sports. He now sits on a UK Dental Trauma panel with the British Endodontic Society and on the UK Sports Dentistry Association committee.

Lyndon provides advice on dental trauma to the England and Wales Cricket Board and took part in delivering dental care at the athletes’ village polyclinic during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He was honoured to serve as the pitch-side dentist as part of the medical team for the Rugby World Cup 2015 and the 2017 Champions League final. Currently, he works as a dental advisor to several Premier League and Championship football clubs, developing dental health screening programmes, trauma management pathways, and CPD courses. Lyndon’s memberships include Dental Trauma UK, the British Endodontic Society, and the UK and International Academy of Sports Dentistry.

On match days, Lyndon supports the medical team pitch-side, providing immediate care and advice on dental trauma to senior squads and opponents, working with the Welsh Football Association, Welsh Rugby Union, and Cardiff City FC. Lyndon also worked at a private specialist referral practice in Bristol and has extensive experience managing complex Endodontic referrals under a microscope and is available to discuss cases or radiographs anytime. Lyndon loves combining his passion for sport with his work. In his free time, he enjoys staying fit and travelling with his young family.
