How Invisalign® works

Invisalign uses a system of clear aligners that are custom-made for you and your unique teeth straightening needs. The aligners work to gradually move your teeth to their new, straighter position, with each set of aligners replaced with the next in the series around every two weeks.

1. First impressions

At your first Invisalign appointment with our specialist at Cowbridge Dental Specialists we’ll take scans of your smile with the iTero digital scanner. This is a quick, contact-free scanning method that eliminates the need for messy and uncomfortable dental impressions. The scans are uploaded to the computer to produce a 3D rendering of your new smile.

2. Time to align

Your digital scans will be sent to the Invisalign lab, for your aligners to be made. When they’re ready, we’ll invite you back for another appointment with us, where we'll show you how to place your aligners and how to remove them. You’ll wear each set of aligners for two weeks at a time, before replacing them for the next one in the series, until your treatment is finished.

3. Take care of your smile

Once your teeth have moved into their final position, all that’s left to do is to take good care of them, wearing a custom Invisalign post-treatment retainer as often as possible, and show off your new smile!
